A 73-year-old man now faces a felony charge after Delray Beach police reported that he intentionally drove his vehicle into a pedestrian outside a local market on September 13.
Glenn Hartman was arrested and charged with an offense involving an act committed during another felony that could cause death, according to court documents.
Officers responded to the Boys Farmers Market parking lot following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, police discovered an injured man sitting on a curb on the north side of the lot, displaying visible injuries to his lower left leg near the ankle and shin.
The victim informed officers that he had just parked his vehicle and was walking toward the market entrance when a white vehicle appeared to deliberately turn toward him. He stated that he managed to push the car aside, preventing it from striking anything beyond his lower leg.
Investigators subsequently interviewed Hartman at Delray Medical Center. After officers read him his Miranda rights, Hartman delivered a sworn statement, recorded on police body cameras, in which he confessed to

deliberately striking the man.
He told police that he had awakened feeling depressed and determined to harm someone. Court records indicate that he drove to the farmers’ market and waited for someone to walk in front of his vehicle before accelerating.
Hartman is currently held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 13.
