Imran Khan ordered to leave India following Mumbai political protest

American national Imran Khan received an official notice from Mumbai Police directing him to exit India. The order follows Khan’s detention after he took part in a Mumbai demonstration. The directive requires the 43-year-old former Bollywood actor to leave the country by October 28, 2026.

Mumbai Police issued the order on October 15, 2026. The action came under Sections 7 and 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.

Those legal sections bar foreign nationals from political activities or protests on Indian territory. Khan took part in an October 10, 2026, demonstration at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai.

That protest demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Officers detained Khan following the gathering.

Also on October 15, 2026, the Supreme Court of India addressed protest regulations in New Delhi. The court issued a notice to the Central Government on a writ petition.

The filing challenges a Delhi Police Standing Order dated October 11, 2026. That police order de-notified Jantar Mantar as a designated public protest site.

In maritime policy, the Central Government approved full accession to the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement in October 2026. The decision elevates India from a Cooperating Non-Contracting Party held since 2022 to a full Contracting Party.

The pact unlocks deep-sea commercial fishing rights for Indian vessels in the southern Indian Ocean. It also grants access to international scientific stock assessment data and research programs.

In rural commerce, President Droupadi Murmu opened the 14-day National SARAS Mela on October 15, 2026. The fair runs through October 31, 2026, at Punnami Ghat, Andhra Pradesh.

This event marks the first time organizers staged the fair in Andhra Pradesh instead of New Delhi. Murmu said India may reach self-reliance before 2047 through women-led growth.

Murmu noted several rural women in Self-Help Group micro-enterprises earn over Rs 2 lakh monthly. She urged shifting policy targets from Lakhpati Didis to Crorepati Didis.

The fair hosts 630 to 650 exhibition stalls. Participants include members from the following groups:

  • Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas
  • Farmer Producer Organisations
  • Cluster Level Federations

About 1,500 women Self-Help Group members participate from multiple states and Union Territories. Daily attendance is projected at 50,000 to 100,000 visitors.

The event showcases handlooms, handicrafts, natural foods, modern finance, and market linkages. Punnami Ghat serves as the active riverfront venue for the regional exhibition.

Foreigners regulations in India govern the entry, lawful activity, and exit terms for non-citizens. Immigration notices set mandatory departure timelines following alleged statutory non-compliance.

Khan must complete his departure before the deadline set by Mumbai authorities.
