As of now, there is no word on whether that individual will face any charges.
The Fatal Crash on Rising Sun Avenue
The incident unfolded on Rising Sun Avenue, near the intersection of Olney Avenue, on Thursday. A 48-year-old man had fallen into the bike lane of the street when, moments later, a green Kia entered the same lane to pass another vehicle and ran him over, killing him.
According to police, less than five minutes passed between the man falling in the bike lane and the fatal collision.
Officer Under Investigation
Philadelphia Police Internal Affairs is now reviewing video that appears to show an officer leaving the man in the bike lane before the crash occurred. The officer has been placed on administrative leave following the discovery of the footage.
The officer faces accusations of two serious failures in the aftermath:
- Failing to report the incident
- Failing to assist a person in need
