Alexandros Paporakis remains jailed after police arrested him in Aurora for an attempted temple shooting. The 19-year-old Palatine resident faces criminal charges following a failed attack against the house of worship.
Paporakis attempted to open fire at the Aurora Hindu temple. His rifle jammed during the attack, according to authorities. Officers took him into custody at the scene.
Prosecutors charged Paporakis with making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of weapons. He was remanded in custody until October 30, 2026. He remains held without bond.
Law enforcement recovered tactical gear, a rifle, and loaded magazines from the scene. Officers also seized body armor bearing white supremacist insignia. Investigators found an eight-page document titled “Why I Fought: A.K.A.: (Aurora Shooter’s Manifesto).”
The writing contained white supremacist rhetoric, according to police. The document included direct threats against Hindus and people of Indian descent.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned the targeted Aurora plot. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal formally addressed the incident during an official briefing. Jaiswal expressed serious concern regarding hostility directed at Indian nationals abroad.
The agency called for zero tolerance toward hate-motivated violence. Indian officials requested decisive safety measures for the diaspora community. The ministry also urged American authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
A remand hearing keeps an accused person detained while court proceedings move forward. Local prosecutors review physical evidence and filed documents before presenting formal indictments.
Paporakis will return to court in Aurora at the end of October.
