HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 26-year-old man faces multiple felony charges after deputies found him asleep inside a Wimauma home he broke into late Tuesday night.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a neighborhood around 11:00 p.m. on September 15, 2026, following reports of an active burglary. Investigators say the suspect first tried to pry open the front door of one house before moving to a nearby residence.
He then forced his way through a rear door of the second house while the residents were still inside, the agency said.
When deputies arrived, they spotted a bicycle outside that they believed belonged to the intruder. They noticed an open rear sliding glass door and stepped inside to clear the residence.
Deputies quickly located the suspect, identified as Erick Moreno, fast asleep on the homeowner’s couch. Investigators also discovered that Moreno had put on a pair of the homeowner’s shoes.
Deputies took Moreno into custody at the scene. He is charged with two counts of burglary of an occupied dwelling with a weapon, possession of burglary tools, resisting an officer without violence, and possession of a false identification card.
