Actor Imran Khan must leave India by October 28, 2026, under an official notice served by Mumbai Police. The American national and Overseas Citizen of India cardholder allegedly violated immigration laws by joining an anti-government political protest.
Officers served the notice to Imran Khan, 43, on October 15, 2026. The order relies on Sections 7 and 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. Foreign nationals cannot participate in political protests or political activities on Indian soil.
Police briefly detained Khan on October 10, 2026. He participated in a protest at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. Demonstrators there demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya demanded enforcement actions under foreign national regulations after the demonstration. The formal exit directive followed five days later.
Protests concerning Kumar expanded to other regions. A Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi issued notices on October 15, 2026. They sent notices to the Indian National Congress, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and other INDIA bloc leaders.
The judicial notices followed a plea by four lawyers. The lawyers sought restrictions on demonstrations on court grounds following the October 12, 2026 “Chalo Dilli – March for Democracy.” Demonstrators had entered court premises while demanding Kumar resign and end the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Chief Justice Kant addressed the incident directly during proceedings.
Nobody can browbeat us.
The court also sought responses from the Election Commission and Kumar regarding the revision petitions. In another case, the Supreme Court upheld the quashing of an ₹8,415 crore Additional Tier-1 bond write-off for Yes Bank.
Across the corporate sector, Jio Platforms is seeking a $108.3 billion valuation. The Reliance Industries subsidiary plans a $3.2 billion initial public offering. The share sale opens October 21, 2026, with trading scheduled for October 28, 2026.
Backed by Meta and Alphabet, Jio will become the fourth-largest listed company in the country. It trails Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, and HDFC Bank. The business conversion metric is pegged at $1 to ₹95.00 INR.
Market projections indicate a listing-day jump between 15% and 20%. Jio relies on enterprise solutions, cloud services, data centers, digital applications, and low-Earth-orbit satellite communications for revenue growth.
Other business and state developments unfolded simultaneously:
- Delhi approved its Industrial Policy 2026 with a ₹1,000 crore allocation.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled five infrastructure projects in Ladakh valued at ₹3,350 crore.
- Wipro beat second-quarter revenue expectations, but deal bookings declined.
Local police enforce immigration compliance notices issued under statutory foreigner rules. Individuals receiving exit notices typically present travel plans to local authorities before departure. The process ensures compliance with national movement rules across Mumbai jurisdictions.
Khan must complete his exit from the country by the designated October date.
