A third person in Pennsylvania has died from measles, according to Jefferson County Coroner Greg Furlong. The victim was a 40-year-old unvaccinated woman from western Pennsylvania who died Saturday from complications related to the disease.
Furlong announced the death Sunday on Facebook. His office identified the woman as a resident of western Pennsylvania.
The death follows an earlier announcement from the Pennsylvania Department of Health that two unvaccinated people in Lancaster County died from measles this summer. Those were the first measles-related deaths in Pennsylvania in 35 years.
State health officials said they are reviewing the latest case and working to expand access to measles vaccinations.
Chester County has reported 64 confirmed measles infections.
