Driver sought after two hit-and-run crashes injure women in Center City
Philadelphia police are searching for a driver. The driver was involved in two hit-and-run crashes on Thursday evening.
Both crashes happened in Center City. They injured two women, according to police.
Investigators say the suspect was driving a black or dark-colored Mazda SUV.
First crash at 16th and Arch streets
The first crash occurred just after 7 p.m. The SUV struck a 59-year-old woman crossing the street.
Police say the driver fled the scene after the pedestrian was hit.
The woman suffered a broken leg. She was taken to Jefferson Hospital.
Second crash one block away
Moments later, the same vehicle crashed into a Kia. The Kia was at 17th and Arch streets.
Police say the Mazda SUV T-boned the Kia. The driver then fled south on 17th Street.
The Kia was driven by a 29-year-old woman. She was transported to Jefferson Hospital with leg and hip pain.
Investigators identify vehicle through cameras
Investigators say real-time crime cameras captured both crashes. The cameras also captured the suspect vehicle’s license plate.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small spoke about the investigation. He said authorities know which vehicle they are looking for.
“That vehicle is registered to an address in South Philly,” Small said. “So we’re pretty confident we’re going to be able to identify or locate the vehicle.”
Small added that police hope to locate the driver as well.
Victims expected to recover
Both victims are expected to survive. The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
